The following is an excerpt from the commentary on Edirisinghe, as it illustrates the vocal prowess of this eminent singer. This talented artist named Patrick Kirige Sunil Jayapreethi Edirisinghe was born on December 19, 1949 in Colombo. His father, Patkirige Edirisinghe, was the youngest in a family of three brothers and four sisters.


   In 1955 he entered Sri Dharmaloka College, Kelaniya for his primary education. Even at a young age, he showed various talents in the field of singing. His achievements in inter-school singing competitions are a prime example. After retiring at an early age, the young Edirisinghe entered Sapugaskanda Maha Vidyalaya and later the Delgoda Kalyanapradeepa Pirivena. 8 He entered the field as a singer.


 Due to this interest, Edirisinghe decided to learn more about music. Nandasiri entered the Music Academy of Dr. Later he appeared for the first examination at the Bhatkhand Music Faculty in Lucknow, India and obtained a first class pass.


  Sunil Edirisinghe also sang in the background for the films 'Hulawali' and 'Sri Madara'. He also passed the Masters Examination and the Diploma Examination at the Bhatkhand Faculty of Musicology, India. In addition, Edirisinghe passed the radio music test in 1975 as a simple singer and in 1977 sang several songs for a commercial album.


    The music was directed by Rohana Weerasinghe. From there, Sunil Edirisinghe and Rohana Weerasinghe's wonderful combination of many valuable songs contributed to Sinhala lyric literature.

Meanwhile, 1979 marked an important turning point in the life of Sunil Edirisinghe.

        That is, he married Mirenji Arachchila's Miss Nandani Munasinghe. Subsequently, in the mid-1980s, Mr. Edirisinghe's first cassette tape was released under the title 'Chandrara Madala'. In the same year, he was able to qualify as an Excellent Grade Singer of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. Today, Sunil Edirisinghe is one of the most popular singers in our country.
