Are you aware of “omicron”?

Are you aware of “omicron”?

We hawe now spent nearly two years with the covid-19 epidemic.

It is a well-know fact the original virus gradually evolved into a variety of mutation , and that the likelihood of developing such mutations is high in high-risk enviroments.

That is why the world health organization have repeatedly reminded us of the importance of tacking this epidemic by respecting equality as one world , sharing vaccinations and other preventive measures.

That is why it was said that no one is completely safe until everyone is safe.

Unfortunately,m there has been a significant delay in vaccination for low-income countries , and Africa as a continent has the highest risk of having the lowest vaccination coverage in the world.

It was during this period that a new member of soth Africa joined the group of vulnerable viruses that cause dangerous corona waves ,n including alpha, beta, gamma and delta nutations. The variant “omicron” (B.1.1.529) is still talked about all ivert the world.

The number of covid patients in almost every province of south Africa is increasing rapidly in line with the introduction of these new strains.

The covid virus was first detected in a sample taken on November a and it has been confirmed  that the virus has been found in Botswana , Belgium, hong kong, Israel and the united kingdom.

Although the new mutant virus has been reported to have the potential to spread rapidly and re-infect people who once had a covid infection , further research is being conducted into how it responds to the vaccines in use.
Experets belive that the higt number of mutations in this genus compared to other species is not to be underestimated.

The protection of vaccines against “various variantse of attention”, including the dreaded delta variety that is spreading around the world, is becoming increasingly clear. The number of deaths reported in countries with high vaccination coverage is clearly lower than in pre-vaccination times.

Among those who receved the full injection,m covid reported a 84% reduction in hospitalizations. You can still get full protection by getting vaccinated and then getting even more protection like that if and then getting even more protection like that if you qualify for a third dose.

Being overcrowded , under-ventilated or close to people increases the risk of contracting covid infection. The virus spreads rapidly, especiallu in crowded restaurants and especially at weddings, when many people eat at one time.

Such places and opportunities should be avoided as much as possible otherwise the timer spent on them should be minimized. If we all keep this in mind during the upcoming festive season, the chances of a big covid wave happening  again can be minimized.

Together we are confident that we as a country can overcome this challenge by following health advice and adopting the same scientific approach as before.
