Ratna Sri Wijesinghe was born on 2 June 1953 in Tellabura, Galle District, Sri Lanka to Manik Hamine (Mother) and Walter Mendis Wijesinghe (Father). A Sinhalese by race, he was very talented from an early age. Before completing his scholarship to Richmond College, Galle, he received his primary education at Sri Sumangala College, Pandavura.
Ratna Sri Wijesinghe (born 2 June 1953) is an award winning Sri Lankan songwriter. He was a pioneer poet in the 80's and was a lyricist who made a powerful contribution to the field of Sinhala poetry as well as Sinhala music.
In the face of the consumerist economy, he examines the physical and spiritual realities of human lives, which depend on stress and competition, and all interpersonal relationships, including human love. Although not immersed in the art of propagandistic tendencies, his creations elicit a profound and comprehensive view of social justice. He is close to his comrade as a restrained and powerful poet who has learned the teachings of classical literature and is passionate about folklore.
Ratna Sri Wijesinghe was born on June 2, 1953 in the village of Tellambure, Nakiyadeniya in the Southern Province. He received his primary education at Nawala Government School, Tellambura Vidyakanthi Vidyalaya and Tellambura Dutugemunu Vidyalaya.
Ratna Sri, who passed the Grade 5 Scholarship, entered Sri Sumangala Central College, Hikkaduwa for secondary education. He then studied science at Richmond College, Galle until his Advanced Level and later obtained an Honors Degree in Sinhala from the University of Peradeniya. Ratna Sri, who also holds a Masters Degree from the University of Kelaniya, began his career as a teacher.
He later worked in charge of the Sinhala Language Unit of the Southern Provincial Department of Education and later as a Lecturer at the Unawatuna Amarasuriya Teachers College. He has also held the posts of Senior Assistant Secretaries in several Ministries.
Ratna Sri also has experience as a TV and radio presenter, editing pages of newspaper poetry and providing mentoring and encouragement to amateur poets. Ratna Sri also makes a significant contribution to journalism by writing columns and feature articles.

Ratna Sri Wijesinghe's Chandrodaya is a rich review of his creative life, comprising a number of scholarly articles examining the creative work of the writer Ratna Sri Wijesinghe. The designer, who has won numerous state awards, was also honored with the Japanese "Bunka" award.
